Bank Simpanan Nasional Offers Jobs for Eligible Malaysian Indians
Malaysian Indians’ participation in the public service sector has been very low. ‘More opportunities need to be provided to Malaysian Indians in public service agencies and government linked companies and organisations,’ has been a heart cry of the Malaysian Indian Congress.
After all these years and days of request to the government from the Malaysian Indian Congress to increase the number of Malaysian Indians in this sector, and in line with the policy to increase participation of non-Bumiputera stated in the Ninth Malaysia Plan, Bank Simpanan Nasional, a government linked financial institution has opened its doors wide open.
A letter from Bank Simpanan Nasional to Yayasan Strategik Sosial (YSS) states that the bank has taken a favourable decision to increase and develop the saving habit of all communities and to make sure that as far as possible eligible Malaysian Indians are placed in the nationwide branches where there are vacant posts such as officers, assistant officers and clerks. Young Malaysian Indians with Degree, Diploma or SPM Certificate can apply for these posts respectively.
Interested Malaysian Indians with appropriate qualifications can call and go for an interview. You may call the following BSN officers to facilitate this process of interview and also to know further details.
“Once your interview is finalised and your application form has been sent to the bank, the applicants are encouraged to give/send a copy of their application form to Yayasan Strategik Sosial at the following address given. This will enable YSS to monitor the application process,” said Yang Bhg Dato S Sothinathan, who is one of the Vice Presidents of MIC and also a Director in YSS Board of Directors. Yaysan Strategik Sosial 5th Floor, Menara Manickavasagam, No 1, Jalan Rahmat, 50350 Kuala Lumpur. “Now is the golden opportunity for the Malaysian Indian community that has been fighting to get access into the public sector. Let us make use of these opportunities fully so that more such opportunities can come our way,” emphatically stated Dato Sothinathan. |
Tekun Loan For Us
Under the poverty eradication program for the Indian community, the government has allocated RM 3 million for small and medium enterprises to be given out as loans. This opportunity is made available for young Indians between the ages of 18 – 40 years old. Tekun Nasional with Yayasan Strategik Sosial has formed a committee to implement and monitor the progress and process of this initiative.
Young people who are keen to start a new business can apply for this loan which is ranges from RM 500 – RM 10,000. Tekun Nasional charges only 4% interest with additional 5% which is deducted from the loan to encourage borrowers to save. The amount saved will be returned back when the borrower settles the loan.
In order for the loan to be approved, applicants need to provide business registration or license with current or savings accounts. Even those who are black listed can apply. This is an opportunity for Indian youths to increase their income and wealth by becoming an entrepreneur.
On 10th August 2008, the first briefing session was held in Ipoh. Nearly 75 youths took part in the session. 70% of youths are already in the business and the balance 30% have indicated a keen interest to venture into business. The session had a motivational speaker challenging the participants to have dreams and to be committed to the fulfillment of the dream to be a successful entrepreneur with high integrity and honesty.Mr. Barmasevam explained on the loan procedures and the repayment methods. During the question answer session, the participants requested YSS to set up a secretariat in Perak to make the forms available and provide further explanation on the loan. This will enable the smooth sailing of the application process.
It is our target to process at least 100 applicants from Perak within the next 2 months. It is important to realize that this opportunity is provided to improve the lives of the Indians and also in order to increase the equity share of the Indian community. Thus the loan given out should not be misused but be utilized it for a good purpose.

RM3 mil aid for young Indian entrepreneurs
He said that assistance would be channelled through Tekun Nasional, a body under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and the MIC-owned Social Strategic Foundation (YSS).
Speaking to reporters after a briefing by Tekun managing director Datuk Abdul Rahim Hassan here Thursday, he said loans of RM10,000 each had been approved for three applications to develop their businesses so far.
Samy Vellu said Indians below 40 should use the opportunity to seek the financial assistance from Tekun to upgrade their businesses.
"No one should come and say that the government has not done anything for the Indian community. There are opportunities available," he said.
Samy Vellu said the MIC and YSS would also organise workshops in the respective states to disseminate the information on Tekun to the youths over the next two months.
Abdul Rahim said Tekun, which was set up in 1998, has already disbursed RM90 mil to bumiputras to develop their business and was expanding it to provide assistance to the Indian youths.
He said a decision of the applications would be made within 14 days if all the documents were in order, compared to the previous period of three months.
"Tekun would request additional allocation from the government if the RM3 mil allocation was inadequate," he said.

Special Micro Credit Loans for Micro Businesses
Most often micro business people have tremendous difficulties in securing micro loans as they do not have collateral or guarantors. Many fall victims to loan sharks or are indebted to pawn shop dealers.
The Ministry of Finance has made special provisions to assist micro business people with micro loans of RM3,000 for the first loan, RM5, 000 for the second and RM 10, 000 for the third.
According to Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria, YSS, Ministry of Finance officials invited YSS officers for a briefing and gave the details. While the project is yet to be launched they have given ‘the go ahead’ to secure the name list. We were told that if we can find a 1,000 genuine micro business people fulfil the requirement, there is an undertaking that they will be able to secure the first loan sometime early this year.
Some requirements highlighted:
- The individual must have a household income of below RM1,000.
- The person could be involved in business such as selling vadai or tailoring from the house or even someone who is just interested to start a micro business.
- The micro loan is for the purpose for undertaking or expanding ones business.
- The repayments must be made on a monthly basis.
- The fund is administered by Amanah Ikthiar Malaysia.
- Loans are individually processed and while there is no interest charge.
- There is an administrative process fees.
This is an excellent project for single mothers who want the economic freedom through micro businesses. If we are able to identify the person with this need at the grassroots, then it would be a great assistance to enlarging the household income.
If we can collectively disseminate the information and identify the target group, Indian community would have access to RM3 million allocated for the Indian community in 2008. Let’s work together and each one find at least one person.
